KOTA KINABALU: It was a case of better late than never for the Sabahawks, as they finally received their official new colours midway through the Malaysian League 2012 season. They received their custom-made Adidas outfits from sponsor Grace One Sdn Bhd at a handing over of sponsorship ceremony held at Grace One outlet in Suria Sabah yesterday.

The State Super League side is set to unveil their new stripes on Friday when they host KL Felda United FC at the Likas Stadium. Sabah FA Deputy President Datuk Lawrence Gimbang, who witnessed the occasion, hoped that the new look would help inspire the players to play better while urging local fans to continue supporting the team.

“With this latest development, which I’m glad is a positive one it would inject new spirit into the team so that they will play even better for the rest of our challenge. “It is a fresh new look for the team, and we hope the fans will appreciate it and turn up to support them in all our home matches,” said Gimbang.

He thanked Grace One for the sponsorship and hoped they would continue to support the State squad in the future. Sabah FA Secretary General Alijus Hj Sipil, Assistant Team Manager Yahya Hj Kassim as well as head coach Justin Ganai were also present at the function. Grace One Sdn Bhd was represented by its Group managing director, Mandy Woon and senior manager, Chan Chuan Sian.
Woon said the custom-made jerseys are designed specifically for the Sabahawks and will not be available elsewhere except in all Grace One and Adidas stores in Sabah. “We are proud to announce that the jerseys are custom designed for the State team. It has been approved from Germany and will be available at all Grace One stores in the State,” she said in her brief address.

She revealed that the sponsorship for the State team comprised six sets of jerseys (two sets home-red, two sets away-white and two sets third-blue) training kits, official attire, Polo travelling shirts, track suits, team bags, three-quarter pants, training balls and match balls all worth up to RM220,000.

On top of that, she said they will also be selling 12,500 pieces of jerseys, which they hope would be snapped up by fans all over the State. “We will also contribute RM5 to the State’s football development fund coffer for every jersey sold,” said Woon. Fans can grab the new State colours at RM109 per piece.

During the function, the FA also unveiled their latest foreign catch, Hendrik Helmke and local talent, Sanjos Sundawat. The 25-year-old German is expected to make his debut on Friday. Sanjos, who is a former member of the State President’s Cup squad, is also expected to feature in the match.

In another development, two State Under-10 players were also featured at the ceremony. Azmi bin Amran (midfielder and defender) from SK Likas and Mohd Hanif bin Jalil (goalkeeper) from SK Gayang Tuaran received contributions from Petrohub Corporation Sdn Bhd, presented by its chief executive officer, Junaidi Datu Abdul Rahman and goodies from Grace One.

The two youngsters were selected to represent Malaysia at an Under-10 Football Championships in Osijek, Croatia on the 18th of this month.
